A co-incidental symptom of stomach sleeping, is frozen shoulder with potential loss of motion of one or both shoulders. The condition is brought on by prolonged twisting of the neck during sleep, and the subsequent trapping of the nerves which service the shoulder and arm area.
Poor sleep posture, whether as a stomach or side sleeper, can cause swelling of muscles in the neck and upper back and over long periods slowly weaken one or both shoulders. Stomach sleeping, with a neck neutral Floatface system, or back sleeping are the ideal postures for frozen shoulder suffers. However, back sleepers may have issues with snoring as they get older and the soft palette becomes less elastic.
Floatface and Frozen Shoulder
With the Floatface sleep system, the face is cradled in a comfortable face down position, whilst sleeping on the stomach. Consequently, the neck and upper spine are well aligned, significantly reducing the risk of nerve restriction to the shoulder and arm.
